One of the oldest children’s clothes shops in Cork, my mum started the Baby Boutique in 1963 in what was then our family home in Castle Street, Cork City. Even though my mum was only 18 when she opened her doors, she had been well schooled in the world of business as my grandfather had a small shop here trading as a general merchant under the name B. Power.
We started selling just baby garments, but as I got older, my mum went up an age each year. I spent my early years living in the shop, so it seems like it was always my destiny to one day take over. I also had an excellent teacher and learned so much from my mother in nearly 30 years of working with her.
What makes us different is that when you enter our small shop, we have nothing on display. We talk to our customers to get an understanding of what it is they are looking for. We then show a range of items and make a personal display of a number of options to give our customers the best chance of finding exactly what it is they are looking for. My staff and I have over 80 years experience between us (even though we don’t look it!) and all in the baby boutique. I am glad to say that this has lead to a lot of happy customers over the years who we are glad to welcome back time and time again.
As we start a new phase and take a small element of our business on-line in 2021, we will never forget our roots and our history. While we must embrace new technologies, we will always be a shop first and foremost. We will continue to encourage our customers (new and old) to come to see us for the very best of what the Baby Boutique has to offer in customer service and experience in customer satisfaction.
